Automattic Kismet is sort of like a collected effort to help stop comment and trackback spam, usually for blogs. What they do is when someone places a comment, trackback or pingback (blog talk) on your blog, it sends this information first to the Akismet server which then identifies whether it is spam or not. It then saves the comment (as spam) for 15 days. So during those days, you can either check the comment or leave it to be deleted. This service is free for non-commerical usage.
