eBay, Inc http://www.ebay.com/ eBay is one of the pioneers for online auction sites. What eBay does is to provide a common marketplace for users to gather and to sell or buy stuff or to do e-commerce transactions. All trades are done by auctioning. This site is a community based effort and they have viewership at the millions per day. Even small businesses can "advertise" their goods and services there. eBay also offers regional sites and in different languages. Buyers and sellers are given a rating based their "trust" level though their past trades.

Slideshare http://www.slideshare.net/ Going for a presentation? Worried about whether your client's computers can support your powerpoint version? Afraid that your might forget to bring the actual presentation file along? Troublesome to bring your own laptop some place far away? Well, you should not worry anymore. Try Slideshare. It is an online platform for you to upload your presentations and then access it from any computer with a Internet connection. And not only presentations, you can share videos, documents and images as well. Don't worry, you can choose to share privately with only your friends through a password. For me, I love this idea. Sometimes when you are on the road, it can be difficult to get things done even if you have a laptop - doing powerpoint presentation can be daunting on a laptop. I often asked my secretary to help me with the presentation and after it is done, she uploads it on Slideshare for me. I like it very much.

ChipIn http://www.chipin.com/ One of the weirdest website ever. It is some sort of a money collection thingy. Basically what you do is create an Widget on their site saying that you need funds for this or that project, then embed this Widget on your site and then wait for the money to keep rolling in. Wow, this is so cool. I should probably have tons of such "ChipIn" widgets on my site like "I need a new laptop" or "My girlfriend's pregnant" or "My dog ate my lunch" and so on. Of course how true is that, we all have no idea. But I am guessing the idea is rather sound and the advantage of using their widget is that you just need a few lines of code and you can easily manage the different "contributions". Furthermore, those naive contributors can see how much more dough you need to finish your projects. Oh, you need a Paypal account.

Project4Hire.com http://www.project4hire.com/ This is a site for users to either post a project (for a fee) or for free lancers bid on existing ones. User can find freelancer programmers, writers, web consultants, graphic or web designers, translators, among others. For those seeking a job or a project, they can bid on projects as well. The online process allows peoples from different countries to come and bid for projects to keep costs down. Their payment system is pretty straightforward -, bidding or submitting is free, but either the freelancer or the client will pay the service fee once the price is agreed to complete the transaction. Thus, once the payment terms and project is accepted, normal communication (via email or instant messaging) can continue. The concept actually works.

Megite http://megite.com/ More or less a RSS aggregator for news. If you are just too lazy to browse the Internet and even to install a desktop news aggregator, then welcome to convenience heaven. Let them do all the work for you while you just read the headlights - basically what most people do nowadays. What happened to real news? Megite is divided into different categories, so choose one that interests you. Or you can read someone else's Megite page. Try as I might, I can't find a way to create my own page. I think most likely only big name Internet players have their own. I have to admit, this site is nothing special.
