Pretty new programming language. And it is by Google so I assume it is for web programming. I mean Google is seeking to dominate the web, so it makes sense for them to do something to enhance that dominance right? Anyway, they claim that this language makes programmers more productive. The difference between this language and all the others is that it is suppose to be meant for multicore and networked machines. Yes, for servers. Most servers and cloud systems can make use of such capability. And everyone wants things fast - the ability to use multicore and networked machine easily would certainly help. From what I read, a lot of additional programming is needed for programs to use the different cores of a server. But if Go simplifies everything, I think this will be a very popular language.
