FreeNAS is a free NAS Software. In transforms your PC into a full-featured NAS Server and comes with a web-based interface for you to configure the NAS. It supports CIFS (samba), FTP, NFS, AFP, RSYNC, iSCSI protocols, S.M.A.R.T., local user authentication and Software RAID (0,1,5), the whole lot. It is based on Monowall (which is based on freeBSD) and comes with everything to setup a proper NAS on your network. All you have to do is to install the image provided and then some configuration and your NAS will be ready for use.
