BookFinder http://www.bookfinder.com/ Can't find a book which your friends recommend in your local bookstore? Your bookstore charges you an arm and a leg for a book which probably don't cost that much? Lost the leg to a bookstore and don't want to go there anymore? Well, you should check out BookFinder. They have over 150 million books in their database. That is a lot of books. Search and find the cheapest book out there. They have new, used, rare, out-of-print and even textbooks available. The best thing, you purchase the books directly from the seller. Thus there is no markup involved, saving you costs. Oh, by the way, the book sellers can be from overseas. I once found an out-of-print book which my local bookstore charges like 8 times the amount I eventually paid for. The nerve of these people.

Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ Everything when I spot a German sounding nice, I get scared. Yes, I am scared of Germans. They are fierce with no sense of humour and have those piecing mustaches. But luckily for me, the German whose namesake is in the title is long dead and the founder of this site is an American. Project Gutenberg is all about free digital books. They claim to have the largest collection of ebooks on the Internet. At time of writing, they have over 33,000 books available for download. Search through their database or browse their various subjects to see which ebook interests you. Or if you want, you can download their collection into a DVD. All the books here are "digitalized" by numerous volunteers. I think this is a worthwhile project. Books are probably the best source of information and only by reading them can you gain that knowledge. Support their cause by donating.

Teens Read Too http://teensreadtoo.com/ Come on, we all know that kids nowadays don't care much about books and reading and all those boring stuff. With Youtube and whatever new social media thingy, they hardly even touch a book. But luckily, we have "Teens Read Too" to the rescue. It is actually a recommendation service which recommend good books for teens. Not just good books but something which teenagers would enjoy and find interesting to them. Well, that is probably true - kids nowadays do need a push when it comes to reading and what better way than to give them a good book. You will never encourage them to read by just piling books in their face and screaming at them. This way works better in my opinion.

Mark Moxcon's Travel Writing Site http://www.moxon.net/ Interesting - this is not a travel site but a travel writing site. Yes, you did not read wrongly - it is a travel WRITING site. So I guess it is all about writing on your travels and so on. I wonder how does that go for the author? Does he go around preaching about how you should write on the train or on the bus or something? But honestly, this site is a very good read. Check out the numerous travel tales he has written, some of which are extremely lively and fun. Finally someone who makes reading travel stories fun - you just wish you were there. And seeing the numerous locations he has been, he is probably a very rich guy. I mean I can't even afford a getaway to some nearby destinations, never mind India, Nepal, Mali, New Zealand, Ghana, Australia, French Polynesia and so on. You can also check out his photo gallery and be envious that some people have all the luck.

The New York Review Of Books http://www.nybooks.com/ For people who read books. You might just be surprised that there are people out there who still read books but apparently the market is still very upbeat. One of the reasons is that the alternatives are just bad. Those whatever e-book readers are nothing but display sets which are uncomfortable to read and use. Fragile, needs power, expensive and many more shortcomings. Physical books on the other hand is comfort and you can read anywhere. Even when you are sitting on the toilet bowl. Anyway, this review of books is the self-proclaimed independent reviewer of literature and whatever. So you won't get biased opinions just independent ones. Which is great. I kind of hate reading a book recommended by someone, only to find it disappointing. Anyway, this publication has a very long history behind it, so you should take note the next time you want to purchase a fairy tale book.

Word Spy http://www.wordspy.com/ It is all about new words here. Honestly I doubt that many of the words really exist in the real world but at the rate of how fast the world runs, I think they might have. Of course it is good to learn about new words, just that they might not be right. Okay, I admit it can be rather fun, especially for old folks like me who might never heard of "war-texting" or the "Ikea effect" or "data exhaust". Hey if you want to be a part of the modern world, this is the site to go. Learn new words, learn new things and even discover a whole new world out there. They keep archives of slightly older words as well, so if you are an old fart like me wanting to find the meaning of the words that the youngsters keep spewing out, just do a simple search and you will be enlightened, you old fart. Yes, we all feel old.

Words Without Borders http://wordswithoutborders.org/ Something like Doctors Without Borders, just with literature in mind. So if you are interesting in reading and with literature and you don't really care where the author comes from (why should you in the first place), check out this site. Honestly, I love reading books and stories from other countries simply because they have a different view of the world from me. Sure, maybe I can't relate to some of their distinct points but we are all human, emotions and feeling are universal. And those authors of Words Without Borders are real writers, not half filled half drunken writer-wannabes like me. So yes, if you like reading and would like to open up your eyes to the world, take a look at this site. You might find yourself spending hours and hours here reading all the interesting short stories and poetry available. Every month they publish new works by international writers. Their purpose is to expose International readers to local authors, which I think is a great thing.
